Manual Therapy
Hands-On Healing to Restore Movement & Function
What is Manual Therapy?
Manual therapy is a specialized hands-on technique used by physiotherapists to assess, treat, and improve musculoskeletal conditions. It involves skilled movement of the joints and soft tissues to relieve pain, increase mobility, and restore function.

Types of Manual Therapy Techniques
- Joint Mobilization: Gentle, controlled movements of joints to reduce stiffness and improve range of motion.
- Soft Tissue Mobilization: Techniques such as massage, trigger point release, and myofascial release to target muscles and fascia.
- Muscle Energy Techniques (MET): Uses the patient’s own muscle contractions to assist in joint and muscle relaxation.
- Joint Manipulation: A quick, precise movement (commonly known as an “adjustment”) to restore joint alignment and relieve pressure.
- Neurodynamic Mobilizations: Gently mobilizing irritated or compressed nerves (e.g., sciatica, carpal tunnel).
Benefits of Manual Therapy
- Reduces muscle and joint pain
- Enhances mobility and flexibility
- Promotes circulation and healing
- Decreases tension and stiffness
- Improves posture and alignment
- Supports recovery from injury or surgery
Conditions Treated with Manual Therapy
- Back and neck pain
- Shoulder and rotator cuff injuries
- Joint stiffness or arthritis
- Headaches and TMJ disorders
- Sports injuries
- Tendonitis and bursitis
- Sciatica and nerve entrapments
- Post-surgical rehabilitation
Integrated with Physiotherapy
Manual therapy is often combined with exercise therapy, postural education, and other physiotherapy modalities to provide long-term results and prevent recurrence.
Safe, Evidence-Based, and Personalized
All manual therapy treatments are tailored to your specific needs and condition. Our physiotherapists are trained and licensed in safe, evidence-based manual therapy techniques.
Insurance & Direct Billing
Manual therapy is covered under most extended health care insurance plans as part of physiotherapy. We offer direct billing to many major providers, WSIB, and motor vehicle accident (MVA) claims.
